NAVEGAR É PRECISO

Christmas 2009

We left Shelter Island on Thursday 24 December, very cold, no wind but sunny. An uneventful trip down the river and across the Strait of Georgia. We were playing around with our new camera, trying out the different settings. Dinis made his first ham QSO while we were motoring. We anchored in Clam bay for the night.

On Christmas morning after breakfast we left for Cowichan bay on Vancouver Island to visit with some friends. Again very cold, no wind but sunny. What a surprise when we saw ice covering the water. What a bigger surprise was the noise level inside the boat while slowly making our way through the ice. By our estimate the ice was about 4-6 mm thick at most. We took lots of photos and videos of this.

We moored at Dungeness Marina for 2 days. Both days were very foggy and very cold. The marina was iced up. We visited with our friends and had a wonderful time.

We left on Sunday for Saltspring Island. Morgan met his friends there and got a lift Monday morning back home with them. We left Saltpring Island later Monday morning.

We stayed a few more days in the Gulf Islands and then made our way to False Creek on the last day of 2009.  What a nice sail we had crossing Strait of Georgia, the wind was blowing about 18-22 knots and we tried our new staysail with a reef in the main.
We arrived back on Saturday night. What a great time we had.
